Frequently Asked Questions

What reading level is the Let's Get Together™ software?

  • The words are all written and also spoken by Sunny, Chili or the children in conflict. Children who are not able to read can fully participate in the problem-solving process by listening to the audio.
  • Children who are learning to read can improve word recognition from the visual prompts and highlighted words.
  • Concept words are colored in the text and students are told that if they click on these words Sunny or Chili will tell them the meaning of the word.

Can the software be purchased for individual people and not as a whole school site license?

  • Yes, an individual can purchase the software for use on one computer. However, when a school purchases a site-license every student has access on every computer in the building. Creating the opportunity for each student to use this tool supports the adults' role of teaching children how to use skills independently, think analytically and problem-solve effectively.

Won't kids make up conflicts just to be at the computer and avoid doing work?

  • The Let's Get Together™ software is not a computer game. It is slow paced with very little animation so that the user is able to think and is not distracted from fully participating in the problem-solving process.
  • Structuring a time to allow students to become familiar with the software will reduce the "curiosity" factor and demonstrate the value adults place on children learning the skills to resolve their own conflicts nonviolently.

Can Let's Get Together™ be used with children who have learning disabilities?

  • The Let's Get Together™ software allows the students to participate in the problem-solving process by focusing on the computer screen not the other person.
  • Many students with a variety of learning disabilities and behavior tendencies have difficulty speaking directly to someone with whom they are having a conflict, especially if they do not have the skills to be successful or if they perceive the interaction to be emotionally or physically unsafe.
  • Sunny and Chili coach the students through the process while creating a safe, neutral and respectful environment.

How can a computer take the place of an adult helping kids solve their conflicts?

  • The Let's Get Together™ software is a tool for adults to use as they teach children how to use skills independently, think analytically and problem-solve. Adults create the atmosphere to support the students' use of the tool and the students' learning.

How can Let's Get Together reduce bullying, teasing, name calling, hitting etc.?

  • When children behave in constructive, compassionate ways, it is because they have learned to do so. Let's Get Together™ software and other tools are non-threatening and allow students' strong emotions to de-escalate so that they can think about using the skills they've learned.
  • Children learn to empathize as they learn skills for listening and understanding different perspectives. Empathy must be understood and practiced in order for it to be applied. The Let's Get Together™ tools allow children to have many opportunities to experience, recognize and develop the ability to show empathy.

What is the requirement for computers and technology for the Let's Get Together™ software?
